The argument
Bringing together in a single performance and distribution the stage excerpts from the operas Maraina (2005), Chin (2010) and Fridom (2020).
Since 2005, between Paris, Antananarivo and La Réunion, the Vollard Theatre has been exploring a popular lyric art that, in original librettos, gives its place to the common ternary rhythm in the Indian Ocean: a spotlight on a French overseas lyric creation.
The show
1h30 subtitled with intermission. In a contemporary setting of plexis and video projections, an orchestra in a pit, a first part (1h) with Maraina on the first inhabitants of La Réunion and Chin, on a sugar conflict in 1955. In the second part (30mn), Fridom on the fate of a free radio in the early 90s.
Composition and musical direction Jean-Luc Trulès, libretto and direction Emmanuel Genvrin, scenography and video images of Hervé Mazelin. 90 participants with the orchestra and choirs of the Reunion Region, the Caribbean soloists Magali Léger (soprano), Aurore Ugolin (mezzo) and Jean-Loup Pagesy (bass), 16 choristers from La Réunion and Madagascar.
